HiSET GED Exam

Lakeshore Campus is now offering the HiSET GED Exam which is paper only. 
 
How much does it cost to take the HiSET exam in Illinois?
The cost is $18 per subtest ($10 ETS fee, $8 test center fee). You will receive two retakes per subtest; however, you must pay the $8 test center fee each time you take a subtest.  Results take 2-3 weeks.  More information can be found at http://hiset.ets.org.
 
Please keep in mind that each student in the State of IL must also pass the U. S. Constitution test.
 
What is passing on the HiSET GED Exam?
There are five subtests:
  1.  Language Arts Reading (65 min., 40 Questions)
  2. Writing (120 min., 51 Q.)
  3. Math (90 min., 50 Q.)
  4. Science (80 min., 50 Q.)
  5. Social Studies (70 min., 50 Q.)
It is scored on a scale of 1–20. In order to pass you must do all three of the following:
  • Achieve a score of at least 8 on each of the five individual subtests
  • Score at least 2 out of 6 on the essay portion of the writing test
  • Have a total combined score on all five subtests of at least 45
Some states may set passing scores that are higher, but under no circumstances can you pass with a total score lower than 45 on the exam.

Calculators are provided by test centers. You may not bring your own calculator to the test center.

Age: You must be 17 years of age or older and not required to be enrolled in high school under Illinois state law in order to take the HiSET exam in Illinois. If you are under 18 years of age, you must also meet the following requirements:
  • 17 years old — you must present proof of withdrawal from the last school enrolled in before taking the HiSET exam. If homeschooled, you must provide a signed letter from the person responsible for your homeschooling (e.g., parent, guardian, instructor, etc.) stating that you are no longer in the program and are not currently enrolled in any other secondary school.
